24th Week Out, Jardin America Week 17, "I Love the Scriptures"

Hello my subjects.

I am EXTREMELY HAPPY RIGHT NOW! Someone just texted me and said they want to be baptized. And so yea, what more do I need to say.

YES! HEY! I´m still doing wonderfully wonderful on the mission! HOW THE HECK IS THE WARD RIGHT NOW!? Where is everyone going!? I hear that y´all are leaving! Goodness gracious, on missions! WAY TO GO! I´m excited for everyone!

Hey howdy hey. SO! I´m actually going to be staying in Jardín América this next transfer! I´m going to be with an elder named Elder Salvatierra. (Elder Saves Earth)

:)

My goodness, what should I share this week? I´ve been talking to an Athiest this week. We like whipped out some major gospel on him. He is going to pray to God and God is going to say HELLO! And then his life will be back in order. That´s exactly what is going to happen too. Just like that.

I´m eating horribly still. Like cookies and alfajores, chips, and hot dogs. Eggs. Stuff. I love food. I need to fix that. I´m trying! I can cook some stuff now, like meat and noodles with some seasonings. I´ve now probably completed like 490 2x2in lemon bars by now. And eaten probably 78% of all of those. Just so you all know, when I get diabetes, or a heart attack, that is why... :)
(sorry mom, I´ll fix my eating habit. No worries)

We have found a family with like 16 people in it. Like holy goodness that´s like the size of my entire branch. I want to convert all of them. ALSO! My Branch President got up on Sunday and bore testimony over missionary work, he was really touched that we found that house of 16 people. It is actually right next to his house, that family. He had been praying that his neighborhood would receive some help. And we are here! It´s happening! So he felt really good about that.

The funny thing is, the only reason I wanted to contact that house was because it is SUPER BIG! And I love rich people and drinking their rich people water. :) ( I think I should have a different mindset when looking for people to share the gospel with, what do you  think?)HA!

I´m reading like all over the place right now! I want to read the Book of Mormon again so I will probably get on that! OH MY GOSH I HAVE A LEGIT BOOK OF MORMON RIGHT NOW! That lady that we baptized (Cristina) she paints! I had her paint on my English Book of Mormon! And She painted the tree of life on front, and the prophet Moroni placing the gold plates in the earth on the back of my book! OH ITS SO GOOD! I have to show you all.

Anyways, I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!? DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY ENGLISH WHEN I SAY THAT!? I take so much pleasure in what I do, not like a prideful thing, but like WOW! I get to  do this everyday!

SO! I´ve been thinking about my life. All I have ever wanted is to be a good person. When I talk in front of people I want them to know that I love God, and I´m not prideful and I just want to do what I´m suppose to do. Like I don´t want anything to be about me, I never liked having big birthday parties or stuff like that with lots of people. I don´t like being the center of attention! Haha!

But hey,

Let me just share a thing; always remember that you are almost absolutely nothing compared to God.
And yet he wants you to be everything that he is.

So if you want to be great, and a good person in the world. You can do it. God already knows you can.

He gave his only begotten son so that you can do it. He wants youSO BE YOU, and do what he says! He´s going to make everything better! I know it!

Old things must pass away so that new things can be brought to pass.

The immortality and eternal life of man.

YES!

23rd Week Out, Jardin America Week 17, "I Love the Scriptures"

:) OH hey. How are y´all?

Hello! I´m about to complete my 4th transfer in the mission! And my mission president is about to leave too! It´s really crazy, we´re going to have someone from the quorum of the Seventy be our new mission president! I don´t know what he looks like... I think I heard he is from Chile though.

Hallelujah!
I´m cruisin´ in the mish´ now. I've been learning some very profound things in the scriptures. If there is anything that I've learned it is that the Spirit is basically everything when you want to gain some more understanding or knowledge. Because we have our own spirits and we can comprehend the understanding of men. But only the spirit of God can comprehend the understandings of God!

SO I've been focusing in on the Spirit everyday! Because not only is it helping me study, it´s helping me teach.

I can say that I´m not actually doing anything. I don´t want to do anything really. I want it all to be from the spirit! If I am actually doing anything other than the walking, I´m actually getting in the way of the work of the Lord.

I LOVE THE SCRIPTURES! I want to be like Joseph F. Smith! I just want to dive in and get swept away by the words! It´s literally super fun!

An idea for reading I might suggest, is to make a question, then to open the scriptures to a random page and begin reading the first chapter that is on that page. DO NOT READ THE CHAPTER HEADING! The chapter heading is only going to give you the idea of what it literally is talking about and some spiritual things, but HEY! DON´T READ THE HEADING! You have to think about what it is saying by yourself. That is where real revelation comes in. Of course that doesn't mean you should disregard what the scriptures are actually trying to say and go way off track and then start your own church, and take that path!

It´s nice! I love reading! I highly recommend you all to read.

I´ve been really blessed as a person. One of the many obvious things of the mission, you learn how blessed you are. Not even just how the people live here, and what they do to survive. Just the fact of having the restored gospel in your hands. I´m super grateful for where I am at. For the doors that have opened for me and are opening! I´m really REALLY excited for the future part of my life. I know it´s going to be hard, but I have more than enough faith in the Lord to not say that I´m excited. I hope everyone is loving everyday! I am! Thank you all for reading my emails! ¡Téngan un buen día!

22nd Week Out, Jardin America Week 16, "I got to talk with my family this week, that was SO GREAT!"

Hey. :)

I had a wonderful week this week! I got to talk with my family, that was SO GREAT! I´m actually super excited for my next one that is super far away. BUT HEY! It´s like this year still. So I have about 4 months now on the mission? I have no idea. I´ve been learning a lot this week from my personal study! Right now I´m studying the Oath and Covenant of the priesthood.

The time is starting to get into a routine for me now! I DON´T WANT THAT! HAHA! It´s basically the fact that I know what I´m suppose to do now, I´m just doing it for the rest of my two years! Not saying its boring, but its a long time! Ha! Don´t get me wrong, I love what I do.

SO! I made lemon bars this week. I actually made a ton more today! THEY TURNED OUT PERFECT! I´m literally going to make some for all of my investigators, every district meeting, zone conference! Whatever it is! I´m going to be called Elder Lemon Bars in a few months! Its going to be like; OH MY GOSH ELDER HORTON IS HERE!? What did he make this time!? HA!

I haven´t got much more to say about my week, everything is kind of the same. I can tell you guys the same thing every week, but no. :)

Well! ¡Jaja!

I love being a missionary! I just want to share the gospel with everyone!

I don´t have a lot of time left, but I have a testimony that I´d like to share before y´all finish my little carta here! I know that the Savior lives! He is up with Heavenly Father right now looking down to us. We are in the last dispensation and at the very doors of the Second Coming. The work is moving along, and I have the privilege of seeing it with my own eyes! I can´t wait for what happens to me in my future because I know that whatever I do, I will do it with the Savior. I know in every part of me that I can feel, that you can do anything with the Savior! And I don´t just say that because that´s just what everyone says in the church. I Elder Horton testify to anyone reading this email, that Jesus is the Christ. He is called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Prince of Peace for a reason you know. :)

And he´s coming to finish the great and marvelous work.

I love you guys! Miss everyone! Thanks for reading my emails! I´ll try to get better at writing.. sorry! Haha!

21st Week Out, Jardin America Week 15, "Training a new mini missionary Elder Irala"

HEY! How the heck are y´all!?

WHAT´S UP! So basically I get this new mini missionary Elder Irala! he´s pretty sick! I think I already told you all about him? He´s super de duper small, which makes me look like I´m 2 feet bigger than I actually am. But Hey! That´s all awesome!

We got an oven. I haven´t been able to use it yet because we need to buy gas and a little connection thing to the gas tank. I´m Extremely EXCITED FOR THAT THOUGH! I´m basically going to go lemon bar loco in a little bit here. Like you all will be jealous of my ability to create lemon bars when I get back from the mish.

So! Tomorrow is President LaPierre´s birthday, and his last consejo! Basically I got called as District Leader like BAM and now I get the privilege to go to a massive meeting now with all of the Zone Leaders and District Leaders tomorrow, on President´s birthday!

Right now I´m just blasting through the mission! I´ve got someone that will be getting baptized the 14th of this month! Her name is Cristina! And she wants to be baptized in a river! Hopefully I don´t get Dengue (dengay) through that! Apparently there's a disease going around like that. Being spread by mosquitos! LEGITNESS!

I´ve been reflecting a lot on the Lord, and reading in Jesus The Christ. I absolutely love that book by the way! It´s hard to read at first, but when you get the hang of it, you just start reaping the fruits thereof! The more I read the more privileged I feel to be serving a mission. Like I literally am doing exactly what the Lord wants me to do right now. And he´s the one doing everthing too!

Lot´s of people may think that we missionaries have to study real hard to get in as much as we can so we can be prepared to teach someone THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST! But no! It´s so freaking easy I tell you! Ok, don´t take me wrong, it´s flippen hard, but like HEY! You just have to love the Lord, love the person you are teaching, and I guarantee you everything will turn out fine!
(I´m giving like free advice here future missionaries!)

HEY! I miss everyone. So when you say hi, it´s like really great! RECIPES TOO! Looking forward to making the good life.

Thank you everyone for all that you are and will be and do right now and will do!

Impressions of Jardín América:
WELL! We actually have a cold winter here! I was not prepared, so I´ve been blasting the Air conditioning all night long so I can keep warm! I don´t know the exactness of how cold it gets but I know that it hurts at night when there is no power, SO YEA!

:) love!
